About

MY BACKGROUND

Despite being born in one of the largest cities in the world, Mexico City, I have always felt more comfortable surrounded by nature. My admiration and appreciation for nature, especially for the ocean, led me to pursue the dream of studying and working with marine organisms. I moved to a distant city on the Gulf of California coast, La Paz, where I obtained my degree in Marine Biology, followed by an M.Sc. in Marine Resource Management. During this time I discovered some wonderful creatures, almost too incredible to be of this world, the cephalopods, which are my main passion and study objective.

I have worked mainly with octopuses, but I have also been involved in research projects studying bivalves. My research has focused mainly on physiological studies using biochemistry and toxicology approaches, although I have also worked with embryology, reproduction, and I have collaborated in citizen science.

Next year I will begin my doctoral studies in Biology with a Specialization in Chemical and Environmental Toxicology at the University of Ottawa, Canada. My research aims to develop tools to identify the risk of metal contamination on the marine ecosystem health, using octopuses and the human populations that feed on them as models.

Whit a passion for toxicology, cephalopods, environmental and public health, and science in general, I have both the skill set and professional background necessary to drive deep into the researching world. As an upbeat, self-motivated team player with excellent communication, I envision an exciting future in science.

Browse my site to see all that I have to offer.
